Today we release the first version of Owl Reminder for Google Calendar with Push Notification. This allows calendar updates to be delivered to the app instantly and reduces the need to perform frequent polling.
A secure app server is setup to receive the push notification from Google Calendar server and notify app client via Google Cloud Messaging. Since this feature is still under heavy optimization, we expect in the next few days, there will be frequent updates to address any issues we collected from users.
Meanwhile, the normal polling is still enabled and the app should work absolutely fine even if the push doesn't work for any reason. Once we solid the push feature, we can start reducing the default polling rate and make the app more power and network efficient.
